The mission of the JP4 Foundation is to enrich the lives of youth in underserved communities through healthy activity, healthy meals and healthy relationships. The JP4 Foundation is evolving to meet the holistic needs of more underserved youth. This approach to well-being instills the skills that lead to lifelong healthy habits. Our programs include summer-long camps, and an after-school program called The Diamond Club, and each year we award the Johnny Price IV Scholarship.

Non-Profit Client Work

Opportunity

JP4 Foundation's goals are to grow in the community and be involved with more schools, have access to hire more community mentors that reflect the students’ cultures, and make an impression on the students to take on the values John “Johnny” Price IV left behind.

To meet these goals set out by JP4 my UX Design team and I had to revisit the strategy PJ4 had in place and find areas of opportunity within participants to drive success and growth.

Deep Dive

My UX Design Team and I first embarked on a deep dive to learn more about JP4 Foundation and understand the importance of who its participants are.

Our Design Team found that JP4 values the students, mentors, and parents all as participants but it was clear the main focus was on students.

Research Results

Opportunity Statement: The absence of collecting consistent data from students limits the opportunities for JP4 to expand its community impact.

Results: For JP4 to grow and get involved in more schools. JP4 needs a way of demonstrating the impact they create in the community by collecting consistent data. This calls for a new strategy of how to collect, gathering, and synthesize data. This data can be shown to grant funders that will support JP4 financially to continue the growth of the program.

Strategy

Mentors will Conduct Surveys with Students to Collect Data

Interns will Gather, Organize & Clean Data

JP4 Board will Synthesize Data that will be shown to Clients, Schools and Funders

Impact = Increase in grants and Growth for JP4

The Strategy Touchpoint Map shows the multiple phases and interactions within the new strategy.

  • Check-in and Check-out Surveys done by mentors.

  • Data is passed on to interns to clean and organize data.

  • Interns pass on the clean data to the board members.

  • Board members will synthesize data to show the impact of JP4 on schools and funders to continue business growth.

High Fidelity Prototype

  • Mentors will perform a check-in and check-out survey with students during the after school program using the Attendance and Feelings Board.

  • The survey is done at the beginning of the day & at the end of day = to collect data of how students are feeling coming in to the program and leaving.

  • Mentors will meet in their small team groups (ratio 1 mentor to 3 students) and talk about each others feelings and ways to support them.

  • After all groups have shared students will move into their normal routine and a mentor will take a picture of the board.

Interns Gather Data

JP4 Board Synethsize

  • Interns will have guides for creating Google files, inputting data from photos, and cleaning the data to hand off to the board.

  • JP4 will have the clean data organized by the interns to now synthesize. Attached below is a PDF file to assist board members in showcasing the impact JP4 has using visual aids. This can be shown to schools and funders to continue the growth of JP4.
